FAQs

Delivery times depend on our time of year but are typically 2-4 working days unless specified elsewhere, we also offer a next day delivery service. We will always give you a call or text to arrange a date and time as we want to make sure it is convenient for you.

Logs need to be dried before they are burnt; if they aren’t, the extra moisture must be dried off by the fire, wasting precious heat energy. Additionally, wet firewood releases harmful toxins that can build up in your appliance increasing the risk of a fire. These toxins also escape into the atmosphere and are detrimental to environmental and human health. Kiln-dried logs are far more efficient, burning hotter and longer while producing less smoke. Ours are guaranteed below 18% moisture and carry the Woodsure ‘Ready to Burn’ certification – ideal for homes with log burners or open fireplaces.

We are delighted to be certified by the Woodsure ‘Ready to Burn’ scheme. They are the only certification scheme in the UK that rigorously checks that wood fuel producers produce and supply wood fuel to the correct standard. Not only do their rigorous standards contribute to the reduction of air pollution, they also act to protect your appliance from unnecessary damage. To learn more about this worthwhile scheme, visit woodsure.co.uk.

This depends on the size of your burner. Our standard size is 10 inch, but we offer a range of sizes from small to large in length, as well as chunky or skinny logs so you have five sizes to choose from. If unsure, check your stove manual or give our friendly team a call and we’ll help you choose the right size.

The vast majority of our wood comes from within the UK. Many of our logs are sourced from managed woodland across Northamptonshire and other surrounding counties and dried on our local site. Your logs could have come from just a few miles outside of Towcester! By sourcing and drying our logs locally, we reduce unnecessary transport and support responsible forestry, helping to preserve the local countryside.

Yes, Towcester is not currently in a smoke control zone, so you can use a log burner or open fire. Just be sure to burn kiln-dried wood, like ours, which meets all the requirements for clean, efficient burning. It’s always a good idea to check Towcester Town Council website for updates.

Fun Facts…. Towcester’s Historic Connection to Wood and Fire

Roman-Era Wood & Early Industry

Excavations in and around Towcester (then Roman Lactodorum) uncovered corn-drying ovens, carbonised grain, and burnt clay debris, suggesting wooden ovens or kilns powered by fire, highlighting early uses of wood and controlled fire in food processing.

Significant Historical Fires

1707/8: A general fire caused damage costing £1,057, a considerable sum at the time.
25 March 1749: A catastrophic blaze at the George Inn started when a candle ignited straw, which spread and consumed 36 houses, demonstrating how quickly wood-based buildings could go up in flames.
Early 20th century:
◦ 1901: The Phipps & Co brewery in Towcester was destroyed by fire.
◦ 1921: The Hesketh Boot and Shoe Factory met the same fate.
◦ 1923: A fire razed the Towcester Grammar School.
These events reflect how wood as structural material and fuel, especially in commercial and educational buildings, left Towcester susceptible to destructive fires.

Towcester Mill: Wood, Water, and Fuel

• A mill at Towcester is recorded in the Domesday Book (1086), originally harnessing water power from the River Tove via a leat to run its machinery.
• The mill, built around 1794 from ironstone, used wooden and metal machinery to grind corn and mix animal feed. The site was restored in the 1990s with a working water turbine.
• Although there’s no specific record of fire in the mill, pre-modern mills typically had wooden components, grain, which is combustible, and heat sources, all combining to create a fire risk. The presence of fire engines at nearby local incidents also signals an enduring concern with safeguarding such structures.

Ancient Woodlands: Wood Burcote

• Just south of Towcester lies Wood Burcote, a hamlet whose name reflects an ancient woodland, rich in bluebells and ramsons in spring, an enduring reminder of the region’s natural wooded heritage.
