FAQs

Delivery times depend on our time of year but are typically 2-4 working days unless specified elsewhere, we also offer a next day delivery service. We will always give you a call or text to arrange a date and time as we want to make sure it is convenient for you.

Logs need to be dried before they are burnt; if they aren’t, the extra moisture must be dried off by the fire, wasting precious heat energy. Additionally, wet firewood releases harmful toxins that can build up in your appliance increasing the risk of a fire. These toxins also escape into the atmosphere and are detrimental to environmental and human health. Kiln-dried logs are far more efficient, burning hotter and longer while producing less smoke. Ours are guaranteed below 18% moisture and carry the Woodsure ‘Ready to Burn’ certification – ideal for homes with log burners or open fireplaces.

We are delighted to be certified by the Woodsure ‘Ready to Burn’ scheme. They are the only certification scheme in the UK that rigorously checks that wood fuel producers produce and supply wood fuel to the correct standard. Not only do their rigorous standards contribute to the reduction of air pollution, they also act to protect your appliance from unnecessary damage. To learn more about this worthwhile scheme, visit https://woodsure.co.uk/.

This depends on the size of your burner. Our standard size is 10 inch, but we offer a range of sizes from small to large in length, as well as chunky or skinny logs so you have five sizes to choose from. If unsure, check your stove manual or give our friendly team a call and we’ll help you choose the right size.

The vast majority of our wood comes from within the UK. Many of our logs are sourced from managed woodland across Hertfordshire and other surrounding counties and dried on our local site. Your logs could have come from just a few miles outside of Hemel Hempstead! By sourcing and drying our logs locally, we reduce unnecessary transport and support responsible forestry, helping to preserve the local countryside.

Yes. Hemel Hempstead is within a smoke control zone, so you must use clean burning fuel. Our kiln-dried logs meet all requirements for clean combustion. Fun Facts…. Hemel Hempstead’s Historic Connection to Wood and Fire

Wood: Ancient Woodland & Industrial Heritage

Historic woodland: Hemel and its surrounds were once covered in ancient woodland. Places like Roughdown Common and Boxmoor Trust land preserve ancient tree species like beech, oak, and hornbeam.

Managed coppicing & timber trade:
These woodlands supplied timber for building, fuel, and tool-making across the centuries.

Ashridge Estate & surrounding woods: Managed forests with roots in royal hunting grounds, now open to the public and protected as part of the Chilterns AONB.

Fire: Local Brigades & Notable Incidents

Early fire response: Hemel’s fire brigade history dates back to the late 19th century, evolving alongside industrial expansion.
Major fire incidents: The Buncefield Oil Depot explosion (2005)—one of the largest in peacetime Europe—shaped national fire safety regulations.
Community resilience: Volunteer and professional fire services have long protected the town, from early pump carts to today’s modern appliances.

Wood & Fire: Industry Meets Nature

Timber from local forests was historically used in millworks and factories, fueling steam engines and heating homes.
Early fire brigades often worked with local businesses to prevent and combat industrial fire. Wood, industry, and fire safety all intertwined.
