FAQs

Delivery times depend on our time of year but are typically 2-4 working days unless specified elsewhere, we also offer a next day delivery service. We will always give you a call or text to arrange a date and time as we want to make sure it is convenient for you.

Logs need to be dried before they are burnt; if they aren’t, the extra moisture must be dried off by the fire, wasting precious heat energy. Additionally, wet firewood releases harmful toxins that can build up in your appliance increasing the risk of a fire. These toxins also escape into the atmosphere and are detrimental to environmental and human health. Kiln-dried logs are far more efficient, burning hotter and longer while producing less smoke. Ours are guaranteed below 18% moisture and carry the Woodsure ‘Ready to Burn’ certification – ideal for homes with log burners or open fireplaces.

We are delighted to be certified by the Woodsure ‘Ready to Burn’ scheme. They are the only certification scheme in the UK that rigorously checks that wood fuel producers produce and supply wood fuel to the correct standard. Not only do their rigorous standards contribute to the reduction of air pollution, they also act to protect your appliance from unnecessary damage. To learn more about this worthwhile scheme, visit woodsure.co.uk.

This depends on the size of your burner. Our standard size is 10 inch, but we offer a range of sizes from small to large in length, as well as chunky or skinny logs so you have five sizes to choose from. If unsure, check your stove manual or give our friendly team a call and we’ll help you choose the right size.

The vast majority of our wood comes from within the UK. Many of our logs are sourced from managed woodland across Northamptonshire and other surrounding counties and dried on our local site. Your logs could have come from just a few miles outside of Raunds! By sourcing and drying our logs locally, we reduce unnecessary transport and support responsible forestry, helping to preserve the local countryside.

Yes, Raunds is not currently in a smoke control zone, so you can use a log burner or open fire. Just be sure to burn kiln-dried wood, like ours, which meets all the requirements for clean, efficient burning. It’s always a good idea to check Raunds Town Council website for updates.

Fun Facts…. Ruand’s Historic Connection to Wood and Fire

Raunds has a historic connection to wood and fire through its past windmills, the destruction of an earlier mill by arson, and the timber construction of its medieval settlement. The Raunds Tower mill replaced a post mill that was destroyed by arson, and the site of the deserted medieval hamlet of West Cotton featured timber-built halls and buildings.

Arson and wood-fired infrastructure

Arson at the post mill: An earlier post mill in Raunds was destroyed in an arson attack, which necessitated the construction of the current Tower mill.
Timber construction: The deserted medieval hamlet of West Cotton, near Raunds, had a major holding that included a timber hall and ancillary buildings, showcasing the use of wood in construction.

Wood and fire in the broader local context

The Great Fire of Northampton: Though not directly in Raunds, the 1675 Great Fire of Northampton serves as a reminder of the destructive potential of fire in the local area, especially concerning wooden structures.

Modern fire department: Raunds is home to the Raunds fire station, which is a modern connection to fire safety and response within the town.
