FAQs

Delivery times depend on our time of year but are typically 2-4 working days unless specified elsewhere, we also offer a next day delivery service. We will always give you a call or text to arrange a date and time as we want to make sure it is convenient for you.

Logs need to be dried before they are burnt; if they aren’t, the extra moisture must be dried off by the fire, wasting precious heat energy. Additionally, wet firewood releases harmful toxins that can build up in your appliance increasing the risk of a fire. These toxins also escape into the atmosphere and are detrimental to environmental and human health. Kiln-dried logs are far more efficient, burning hotter and longer while producing less smoke. Ours are guaranteed below 18% moisture and carry the Woodsure ‘Ready to Burn’ certification – ideal for homes with log burners or open fireplaces.

We are delighted to be certified by the Woodsure ‘Ready to Burn’ scheme. They are the only certification scheme in the UK that rigorously checks that wood fuel producers produce and supply wood fuel to the correct standard. Not only do their rigorous standards contribute to the reduction of air pollution, they also act to protect your appliance from unnecessary damage. To learn more about this worthwhile scheme, visit woodsure.co.uk.

This depends on the size of your burner. Our standard size is 10 inch, but we offer a range of sizes from small to large in length, as well as chunky or skinny logs so you have five sizes to choose from. If unsure, check your stove manual or give our friendly team a call and we’ll help you choose the right size.

The vast majority of our wood comes from within the UK. Many of our logs are sourced from managed woodland across Buckinghamshire and other surrounding counties and dried on our local site. Your logs could have come from just a few miles outside of Aylesbury! By sourcing and drying our logs locally, we reduce unnecessary transport and support responsible forestry, helping to preserve the local countryside.

Parts of Aylesbury currently lie outside smoke control zones, while others are within them. If you use a log burner or open fire, we strongly recommend burning kiln dried wood (such as ours), which complies with requirements for clean and efficient burning. It’s also wise to stay informed of any changes, check the Buckinghamshire Council website for the latest updates.

Fun Facts…. Aylesbury’s Historic Connection to Wood and Fire

Timber-framed & older buildings

Aylesbury has quite a few older buildings and houses that are timber-framed or have wooden structural elements. For instance, in the Old Town around Market Square, Church Street, Parson’s Fee etc, there are Tudor, Jacobean and Georgian style buildings, some with timber windows and wood details. The use of timber in housing would have meant that fire, especially from chimneys, hearths, cooking, etc., was a constant risk.

Market and timber trade

The Aylesbury Arm of the Grand Union Canal was, when it opened around 1814-15, used to transport timber, coal, grain and building materials to Aylesbury. Timber was a traded commodity arriving by canal. That suggests wood played a role not just in homes, but in commerce, construction, infrastructure and possibly local crafts.

Fire incidents affecting town heritage

There are records of fire damaging buildings in Aylesbury historically. Aylesbury Town Hall was badly damaged by fire in 1962. The main hall and archway wing were particularly affected. Chimney fires have also occurred, a fire spreading from a chimney to first-floor joists in one case.

Smoke control, bonfires and legal regulation of burning

Though more modern, there have been regulations around the burning of fuels like wood, bonfires, smoke nuisances in Buckinghamshire. For example, rules on what fuel can be burned in smoke control areas, laws about causing dark smoke or nuisance. Also, use of wood that is dry or authorised appliances is encouraged or required in some districts.

Cultural / architectural importance of wood

The presence of timber windows or wooden frames in heritage buildings is still visible in Aylesbury shows wood’s continuing significance in the town’s built environment and cultural heritage. Also, old timber structures (inns, cottages) point to a time when wood was both a building material and, indirectly, a fire risk.
