FAQs

Delivery times depend on our time of year but are typically 2-4 working days unless specified elsewhere, we also offer a next day delivery service. We will always give you a call or text to arrange a date and time as we want to make sure it is convenient for you.

Logs need to be dried before they are burnt; if they aren’t, the extra moisture must be dried off by the fire, wasting precious heat energy. Additionally, wet firewood releases harmful toxins that can build up in your appliance increasing the risk of a fire. These toxins also escape into the atmosphere and are detrimental to environmental and human health. Kiln-dried logs are far more efficient, burning hotter and longer while producing less smoke. Ours are guaranteed below 18% moisture and carry the Woodsure ‘Ready to Burn’ certification – ideal for homes with log burners or open fireplaces.

We are delighted to be certified by the Woodsure ‘Ready to Burn’ scheme. They are the only certification scheme in the UK that rigorously checks that wood fuel producers produce and supply wood fuel to the correct standard. Not only do their rigorous standards contribute to the reduction of air pollution, they also act to protect your appliance from unnecessary damage. To learn more about this worthwhile scheme, visit woodsure.co.uk.

This depends on the size of your burner. Our standard size is 10 inch, but we offer a range of sizes from small to large in length, as well as chunky or skinny logs so you have five sizes to choose from. If unsure, check your stove manual or give our friendly team a call and we’ll help you choose the right size.

The vast majority of our wood comes from within the UK. Many of our logs are sourced from managed woodland across Buckinghamshire and other surrounding counties and dried on our local site. Your logs could have come from just a few miles outside of Woburn Sands! By sourcing and drying our logs locally, we reduce unnecessary transport and support responsible forestry, helping to preserve the local countryside.

Yes, Woburn Sands is not currently in a smoke control zone, so you can use a log burner or open fire. Just be sure to burn kiln-dried wood, like ours, which meets all the requirements for clean, efficient burning. It’s always a good idea to check Buckinghamshire Council website for updates.

Fun Facts…. Woburn Sand’s Historic Connection to Wood and Fire

Firewood for Woburn Abbey

Woburn Sands was part of the Duke of Bedford’s estate, and local woods like Aspley Heath and Kings Wood were heavily managed for timber production. The timber , especially oak and beech, was harvested for:
◦ Firewood for Woburn Abbey
◦ Charcoal making for smithing and heating
◦ Estate buildings, fences, and furniture

Charcoal Burning in the Woods

• Before modern fuels, charcoal burning was a key woodland industry here.
• Charcoal pits were scattered through Aspley Heath and Bow Brickhill Woods.
• Charcoal burners would live in the woods seasonally, managing slow burns to convert logs to fuel.

The Commoners’ Fire Rights

• In the 18th and 19th centuries, local people known as commoners had rights to collect dead wood and gorse for burning.
• Fires were vital for heating, baking, and cooking — and gathering kindling was an important local chore.

Wood-Fired Brick Kilns

• The Woburn Sands area was known for brickworks, thanks to the local clay/sand mix.
• Bricks were fired in wood-burning kilns, often on a small scale.
• Some disused kilns still dot the landscape around the town.

Listed Buildings with Historic Fireplaces

• Several listed cottages and homes in Woburn Sands still contain original open hearths, chimneys, and wood-fired ranges.
• These fireplaces were once central to life: cooking, heating, and socialising.
